TREK WITH HIMBAS & TOPNAARS PEOPLE
Day 1: Windhoek
Arrival at the Windhoek airport and departure toward Waterberg National park (depending on arrival time, clients may overnight in a hotel in Windhoek the first night). Short hike on top of the red sandstone plateau that dominates the huge plains of the Kalahari Desert. Overnight in lodge or camping facilities.
Day 2 & 3: Etosha National Park
Today’s journey leads us to Etosha National Park, one of the main sanctuaries for the African wildlife. A game drive is scheduled in the afternoon in order to discover one of the most beautiful landscapes in all Africa. On day 3, a fantastic game drive through the numerous water holes of Etosha national park offers a spectacular scenery.
Day 4: Kaokoland
We leave for the Kaokoland. We go through numerous villages of the Herero tribe in their traditional attires… We meet the Himba donkey drivers and villagers. Accommodation: camping facilities/or lodge.
Day 5, 6 & 7: Kaokoland
Three days of hike in the Himba territory, in the wild landscape of the Kaokoland to meet this mysterious people where we will install our camp not far from the villages. Our small tents and other necessities like food and water are carried on the back of the donkeys, driven by local Himba people.
Day 8: Epupa falls
After 3 days of a journey out of the ordinary, we arrive to the famous Epupa Falls, a real paradise comprising of baobabs, palm trees and luxurious vegetation. Epupa is always inhabited by the Himbas. Accommodation: camping facilities/or lodge.
Day 9: Sesfontein
On the way to Sesfontein through Opuwo, we cross the Schwarze Mountains by the magnificent track of the Joubert Pass. We take a walk to explore the area. Accommodation: camping facilities/or lodge.
Day 10: Damaraland – Twyfelfontein – Brandberg
We leave the Himba territory and drive towards Damaraland, an area occupied by the Bushmen who still use the click language… This is a magnificent drive through the Damaraland, We enjoy a walk guided by a local click speaking guide at the site of Twyfelfontein. Accommodation: camping facilities on the Brandberg Mountain massif/or lodge.
Day 11: Swakopmund
Back to civilization and enjoying a free time in the coastal town of Swakopmund or taking up one of the optional activities available. B&B accommodation in a lodge.
Day 12: Walwis Bay – Homeb – Oswater
We gather by the water front in Walvis Bay around 09:00 and we will be transferred from Walwis Bay to the Namib Desert to be at the trek departure point. A short walk of 2 and a half hours to arrive at our camping site for the first night. Accommodation: Camping.
Day 13: Oswater – Salt River
Morning departure for the great shadows and light dunes of the first sunlight play with the landscape; walk along Kuiseb till Natab village. The first meeting with the Topnaar people, at Natab. A people threatened by extinction. Lunch at Natab and we go back to our walk in a dazzling environment. Accommodation: Camping
Day 14: Salt River – Klepneus – Homeb – Namib Desert
We wake up at dawn for a walk between the dunes and lowlands of pebbles, lunch under the shadow of an Acacia tree. Picnic lunch and a nap in this landscape of Kuiseb. We finally cross the river and are transferred to Homeb to take back our car and continue with the journey. Accommodation: Camping. 4 hours hike, bivouac camp in the Sesriem camp site.
Day 15: Namib Desert: Sesriem and Sossusvlei
Discovery of the red dunes of the Namib Desert. 3 hours hike to the discovery of Deadvlei and Big Daddy dune, said to be the highest dune in the world. Bivouac camp. Accommodation: Camping
Day 16: Windhoek
Transfer back to Windhoek, installation at the hotel and free visit of the capital. Diner at own account in town or at the hotel according to your own desires (we can suggest to you a typical African diner if you would like to have one).
Day 17: End of tour and transfer to the airport
Boarding and flight back to France. Accommodation with B&B only.
